steps to choose a career path

Some of us really do know what they want, where they want to go, how they are going to achieve their goals, but for the rest of us, it isn’t that easy. Is it? And deciding your career can most certainly be the biggest decision of your life. Wait, I’m not scaring you but, it is indeed important, but you need a calm and relaxed mind to evaluate what you want. It is only with the peaceful mind that a person is able to make a wise decision. It can be a lengthy process, but I’d request for you to remain patient with yourself so that together we can shape the best future for you. Now, let us help you in the process of evaluation through these very important questions that you should keep in mind:

What excites you about your current studies/ work?

This is what we all strive towards in our lives, don’t we? What makes you feel lively and fills your life with joy and happiness. The sole thought of you making progress in this field should have the power to charge you up and work for it. That’s your right decision. That’s the one you want to choose. To understand which is this way, you may want to look at what you do in your normal days to charge up and feel relaxed. Think and evaluate yourself. And trust me, when you’ll know the answer, you'll be able to feel it in your bones.

Who am I doing this for?

Most of the students and graduates make these decisions under their parental pressure. What they are looking at while deciding these life-changing choices is their family background. Well, this is not the time you read your family history book. These decisions have the power to make or break your future. Please understand the difference between being influenced & inspired, and make clever choices.

What are my skills?

Right now. Right at this moment, you possess the skills that are going to help you succeed in future in your desired career path. So, sit down and analyse what skills you have. Now, skills are of two types, soft skills and hard skills. Soft skills are the people and life skills, these include time management, teamwork etc. Hard skills, on the other hand, are the ones you have acquired through your studies, these include computer programming, etc.

What is your definition of work?

This is a particularly important question and people usually miss this. But what is it that is work for you is a very crucial part. Is it payroll? Is it passion? Is it convenience? You really need to put yours to this one. Because not all jobs give you everything. Prioritise before going ahead. If you don’t know what you want from your work you’ll never be satisfied with it. So, before digging in on your career ventures THINK.

Does this career line with my ethics?

The decision is never the hardest part for your future, what’s hard is the part where you have to figure out what you are willing to give up in your quest. And it shouldn’t be your ethics. These are the things most of the people live their lives for. Keep in mind that you don’t want to choose a line where you have to put your rules aside in order to achieve your goals. Don’t run in mad-race, work for your satisfaction. That’ll give you peace.

What is my personality?

Personality goes a long way while deciding a career path. It determines how you’re going to perform in that particular sector. Also, it tells a lot about what kind of an asset you will be to the business. For example, if you are a follower type and you choose a career path of a politician. You’ll definitely fall behind your expectations, leading to an unsatisfied lifestyle. All because you didn’t focus on you and your personality.

Which post I would want to see myself in?

Lastly, now that you have something in your mind. Imagine yourself there, with the things you want. A job sometimes can be a very frustrating part of your day, unsatisfying and exhausting. What really keeps us going through all of that is the idea of us sitting on the post that we’re working so hard for. This idea should be powerful enough to bounce you back on your feet and start every day as a new sunny day. Bright as your future is going to be.

Summing up:
